Mechanism of Action

Melanotan 2 is a synthetic cyclic peptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that non-selectively activates melanocortin receptors, particularly MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R. By binding to MC1R on melanocytes, it stimulates melanin production independent of UV exposure, while activation of MC4R in the hypothalamus affects sexual arousal pathways and appetite regulation. The compound's cyclic structure provides increased metabolic stability compared to native α-MSH.
