Semax
Boosts focus and mental clarity naturally
- Cognitive Enhancement
- Focus/Mental Clarity
- Neuroprotection
Nearly all safety data comes from animal studies - human side effect profile is poorly established May affect blood coagulation - caution advised for those on anticoagulants or with bleeding disorders Genotype-dependent effects on seizure patterns observed in animals - caution in epilepsy
Mechanism of Action
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of ACTH(4-10) that appears to exert its effects primarily through upregulation of neurotrophins, particularly BDNF and NGF, and their receptor genes in brain tissue. It also shows moderate interaction with metabotropic glutamate (mGlu) receptors, which may contribute to its cognitive effects. The compound activates transcription of neurotrophic factors in a region-specific manner across brain structures including the hippocampus, frontal cortex, and retina. Key Pathways: Neurotrophin signaling (BDNF, NGF, NT-3) and Trk receptor activation, Metabotropic glutamate receptor modulation, Anticoagulation and fibrinolytic system enhancement under stress The upregulation of BDNF and NGF provides a mechanistic basis for observed improvements in learning and spatial memory in animal models, particularly following ischemic injury. The neurotrophin-enhancing effects also explain the compound's apparent neuroprotective properties against hypoxic and ischemic brain damage observed in rodent studies.
